World Diabetes Day is being commemorated with the theme: "Your Eyes and Diabetes: Don't Lose Sight of the Risks". The documentation and publicity materials are available on the IDF website (http://www.idf.org/home/index.cfm?node=355)
The International Diabetes Federation has published an International Curriculum for Diabetes Health Professional Education. It is intended for worldwide use as a resource for planning and running courses for Diabetes Educators. Quoting from the foreword, this Curriculum "can be used in full to conduct comprehensive programmes or in part for short workshops. It can be readily adapted to meet the different and special needs of local health professionals, institutions and organizations." A WPDD Workshop was held in the context of the 3rd World Congress on the Prevention of Diabetes and Its Complications and the 4th Hong Kong Congress on Diabetes and Cardiovascular Risk Factors. The WPDD Workshop reviewed National Diabetes Prevention Programs and produced a Consensus Statement on the Prevention of Diabetes.

the Madang Commitment that emphasized the need for a regional intervention
on diabetes in the Pacific Island countries.

of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific Region Meeting
(WHO).

The WPDD and the Plan of Action were drafted and agreed by the
participants and key stakeholders : IDF/WPR, WHO/WPRO and SPC. The
meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur and hosted by Malaysia.

"Call to Action" on diabetes and the development of an eight-point
draft for the WPDD made jointly by IDF/WPR and WHO/WPRO at the regional
congress of IDF/WPR held in Sydney, Australia.
