Steering
Committee

Responsibility
The
Steering
Committee is WPDD's principal management body. It guides, supports,
monitors and evaluates the implementation of WPDD. It takes necessary
actions to fulfill the objectives and mission of the Plan of Action
for WPDD, including the mobilizing of necessary resources.

Composition
The Steering Committee is composed of 9 members including a chair
and a vice-chair. The members include -

representatives of WHO (one for WHO/WPRO)

2
representatives from the IDF/WPR;
-
1
representative of the SPC;
-
1
representative from national government;
-
2
responsible officers of the Secretariats for WPDD;and
-
1
representative from another selected partner organization.
Observers are permitted to attend meetings of the Steering Committee.

Officers
Every two years, the appointment of Chairperson and Vice Chair
is alternated among the members from or nominated by WHO/WPRO and
IDF/WPR. The Chairperson presides at all the meetings of the Steering
Committee. The Steering Committee meets at least twice a year.
Secretariat
The Secretariat implements the policies set by the Steering
Committee. Under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Steering
Committee, the Secretariat acts as a focal point for WPDD related
activities.The WPDD Secretariat consists of 2 arms, one operated
by WHO/WPRO and the other by IDF/WPR. Its main functions include

supports
implementation of the plan of action for WPDD;

provides
coordination among WHO, IDF, SPC, governments, NGOs and international
agencies for activities of WPDD and implementation of the plan of
action;

prepares,
assists the activities of the Steering Committee and implement the
decisions of the Steering Committee; and

provides
information on WPDD, edit and publish a yearly newsletter and develop
a website as tools for dissemination of information on WPDD.
